His architectural style is very unique of that of other designers. He doesn’t stick to the basic shapes of rectangles and cylinders. He has an extensive imagination. He has amazing ideas got him recognized in the architectural world. He works with concrete, steel, wood and glass. The way he uses these materials to manipulate the buildings he creates is ingenious. His Grandmother influenced him to make his “fish” sculptures from when she brought carp in and let them swim in the bathroom on Fridays. He made fish statues and a fish restaurant in Japan.
One his most unique buildings were Fred and Ginger. They are located on a corner in the Czech Republic. Fred was a cylinder and Ginger was a building made out of glass so it fills the building with constant sunlight. Fred has moving windows. Another masterpiece is the Guggenhiem Museum in Bilbao, Spain. It has a lot of curves and it is a shiny grayish color. It is a sight to see at night since the lights make it glow ever so voluminously This was the first time that Gehry ever used mostly titanium for a building before. It was completed in1997 and was a turning point in his career. The building got a lot of attention just because of the unique design, others because it attracted a lot of attention for a museum.
